No Need To Say Goodbye

-It started out as a feeling-

Should he? He was standing right there, so it shouldn't be too hard to just…

-Which then grew into a quiet hope-

Would he stay? He would… wouldn't he? He sure as hell hoped so

-Which then turned into a quiet thought-

He could just… do it and hope for the best

-Which then turned into a quite word-

"Gabe?" the boys voiced cracked, emotion filling the single word
Gabriel turned, looking down on the younger boy. He had frequently visited the young Winchester, just to talk.
But it seemed the young child had become extremely attached

-And then that word grew louder and louder-

"Please don't go!" cried Sam running forwards and wrapping his arms around the Arch-Angels waist
"I don’t want you to go!"

-'till it was a battle cry-

"Don’t worry, Sammy. I'll be back soon"

-I'll come back when you call me-

"I'm only a prayer away, okay?" Gabriel said, dropping a kiss on the child's head.
The rush of many wings filled the silent air, and then he was gone. No good bye was said. It didn't need to be.

-No need to say goodbye-

-Just because everything's changing-

"I have to, I've told you this. I don’t want to but I have to"
"just- just come back, okay?"

-Doesn't mean it hasn't been this way before-

Gabriel moved closer, ghosting his lips over Sam's.
"I'm so sorry" he whispered, closing the tiny distance and kissing him for the first time.
The final time, as well.
As Gabriel kissed him, Sam's hands clutching Gabriel's shirt, he invaded Sam's mind, meaning to destroy every memory of himself. But he couldn't.
Seeing the undying love he had for him, it crushed him.
So instead he locked the memory away, so deep Sam would never be able to find them himself.

-All you can do is try to know who your friends are-

Sam's kissed became desperate, feeling Gabriel remove the memories. Gabriel could bring himself to leave that part of his mind bare, so he left a simple note;
The golden star on the horizon

-As you head off to war-

Then, he closed the door on the memories and locked it, burying the key deep within his own mind.
He broke the kiss, seeing Sam's eyes cloud as his mind worked to figure out what had happened.
He left before the confusion set in, is grace filling the room and rendering Sam unconscious.
As he flew to the heavens, he projected his grace across the skies, creating a golden star on the horizon.

-Pick a star on the dark horizon and follow the light-

As long as that star burns, I'll come back to you Sammy, he thought, swearing on coming back to the Winchester

-You'll come back when it over-

Never say goodbye to someone you will see again. Never say goodbye to someone you love.

-No need to say goodbye-

I swear it, Sam Winchester. I won’t ever leave you

-You'll come back when it's over-

He truly wished there was no war between Michael and Lucifer. For so many reasons; he couldn't watch his brothers fight 'till the death. But also because he had to leave Sam, was forced to leave him.

-No need to say goodbye-

-Now were back at the beginning-

It had been ten years, ten raging, bloody and painful years until Gabriel finally told the Winchesters who he was. Ten years of war and fleeing.

-It's just a feeling and no one knows yet-

His eyes darted to Sam, wondering quietly if some part of him was still in love with Gabriel, because every part of Gabriel yearned for his touch.

-Just because they can't feel it too-

The boys walked from the warehouse, leaving Gabriel standing in the cascading water, slowly putting out the holy fire. He didn’t know what to do. He wanted Sam, but didn't dare try to uncover the memories.

-Doesn't mean that you have to forget-

He fell to his knees, a choked sob escaping his mouth once the door closed.
What was he supposed to do? Pretend that he didn't love Sam? He couldn't do that.
"Sam" he whispered, his voice cracking over the single syllable.

-Let your memories grow stronger and stronger-

Sam paused for a moment, hand resting on the handle to the passenger side of the Impala.
"Sam? What's up?"
A pounding in his head made him suck in a breath, squeezing his eyes shut.
"Sammy? What's wrong?"
"Gabriel" Sam whispered, memories suddenly flooding in.

-'till they're before your eyes-

Sam rushed back into the warehouse, seeing the Arch-Angel on his knees in the centre of where the holy fire ring had been.
"Gabriel!" shouted Sam rushing over, falling on his knees before him

-You'll come back when they call you-

"I remember. I remember, Gabe" he whispered, cupping the Arch-angels face
"Sam?" Gabe asked, eyes darting between each of Sam's.

-No need to say goodbye-

"It’s me, Gabe, it's me" Sam said, resting his forehead on Gabe's, like he had done so many years before

-You'll come back when they call you-

"Your back" whispered Gabe, before pushing forwards and crushing his lips onto Sam's. Years of sadness, desperation and pure want went through the kiss, Gabriel never wanting to stop.
Never wanting to say goodbye again
